A Rare Beauty

Ford GT - NEX-5N & Voigtlander Nokton Classic 40mm f1.4. Click for larger.

This was the second Ford GT I saw in Toronto.  When I saw one the first time, in blue & white, it was beautiful.  I am not a car nut and never knew Ford made a super sport car like this, until my colleague Ian told me about it.  One would easily mistake it for an Italian car.

  1. Interestingly it's something of a replica, being essentially a replica of Ford's legendary GT40 racecar from the 1960's with a modern drivetrain and a slightly more comfortable interior.

The GT40 looked Italian because it was designed under the same constraints as the classic Ferrari's, which it was specifically designed to beat back in the 1960's after Ford had a falling out with Enzo Ferrari. It was also extremely successful in its goal, dominating racing during its run.

  2. Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson used to own one and had a quite favorably review on it. Sadly though, the quality seemed to be suboptimal since the theft protection people called him and told him that his car was stolen and that they were going to disable it. Since he was at the same time driving it, obviously he didn't quite agree with that. This happened several times. In the end, he sold it.

    1. This is just too funny! But Ford and other American car companies have improved the quality of their cars by leaps and bounds of late.

  3. The Ford GT was developed as Ford's 100th birthday present to itself, and instigated by Bill Ford, the Ford family scion and great grandson of Henry Ford, and Chairman of Ford Motor Company. It was a great car, but also the subject of several recalls and production problems.
It's true that the domestic manufacturers have greatly improved their quality, but according to JD Power, Chryslers still have almost 3 times as many problems as the industry leader, Lexus.

PS Great lens and camera combo!

    1. Thanks for the additional info, James. Appreciated. Yes, the Voigtlander 40mm f1.4 is quite a nice lens, only if it could focus closer. Perhaps I should invest in a M-NEX adapter with built-in helicoid.
