Heavy, Wet Snow Aplenty

I was overjoyed this morning that the temperature will be in the positive territory, and I did have fun shooting with the Minolta Rokkor-X 250mm f5.6 mirror lens. Just right before heading home, heavy and web snow started to come down, seemingly with a vengeance. It did, however, provided some interesting opportunities for photography. I stopped a couple times and shot a few frames. In a very short time, the lens, camera and myself were all wet. I was afraid the camera/lens might be damaged by moisture but everything turned out fine.

  1. great shots, great lens - pretty sharp! Muddy weather ahead. In Munich it feels almost like spring coming.

    1. Thanks. Lens this slow is not really suitable for situations like this, but it turned out ok. Shot at ISO 3200. Very noisy.

  3. Interesting, about half the weight of my FD200f4. I'm not sure if (shorter, fatter and lighter) is better than (slimmer, longer and cheaper). Would be interested to see it its transmission is better (resulting in higher shutter speed per ISO) than all the glass elements in the path.

    1. I think the whole idea about mirror lens is the small size and light weight. This lens is about the same size as the Rokkor 58mm f1.2. I was able to put the NEX-6 and this lens (with hood) in my coat pocket. For image quality, it can't compete with the Canon FD 200mm f4, but the price of this lens has gone insane at > $1000USD.

    2. I just checked eBay and WOW insane is the right word! When you say "it can't compete with the FD 200" I am instantly curious as to how we could compare this. Some ideas come to mind, are you interested?

    3. I have the Canon FD200mm f4 but seldom used. What I meant by not comparable to the 200mm f4 is the fact that it can be stopped down, and at f5.6, the 200mm f4 is probably a bit sharper.
