Yet Another Sony NEX Camera, But No New Lenses

Once again, the rumor is spot on regarding the Sony NEX-5R.  Another EVIL camera from Sony, but where are the lenses!?!  This I do not understand.  Sony churns out cameras like clockwork, and yet they are not able to produce more decent lenses for the NEX.  The E-50mm f1.8 is a very nice lens and is in right direction, with stabilization and a fair price.  The Zeiss 24mm f1.8 is nice, but priced for the select few, not the masses.  We need more lenses like 35mm f1.8 (which is coming), redesigned 16mm f2.8, 20mm f2/f2.8, 28mm f2 and 85mm f1.8.  All these lenses should also work on the future Full Frame NEX.

Come on Sony, your NEX customers have waited long enough.  We deserve some good but reasonably priced glass.

  2. Three lenses will be announced on Sept 12 with the big pre-Photokina announcement, the NEX-6, A99, at least one A mount lens and at least one E mount camcorder are also expected.

Lenses will be a 16-50 powerzoom pancake, a 35/1.8 and an 11-18/4, all with OSS.

    1. I am looking forward to the 35mm f1.8 OSS. Not a fan of zooms, though they sometimes come in handy.

  3. The 11-18 is the only one on my list. I want the wide, but I'm otherwise pretty satisfied with what I've got now. May just get the 16 and the 0.75x adapter, I've got the 16 on loan and I quite like the little thing.

Aside from wides, the only hole in my system is moderate telephotos. I need to get a 135 and a 200, probably going with a couple Nikkors for that, I've got too much of a gap between my 100 and my 300.

    1. Yup. I am happy with the 16 as well, given the low price. Haven't tried the wide angle adapter though. Does it make the corners even worse?

At times I wish to have a wide zoom to just walk around and shoot. Sometimes the freedom to zoom is part of the pleasure of shooting.
