Rusty Can -- NEX-5N & Jupiter-9 85mm f2 LTM. Click for larger.
Have been playing with the Russian Jupiter-9 85mm f2 for a few days. Didn't take too many pictures, but I already know I will like this lens very much. I once had the M42 version of this lens, but it didn't seem as big or heavy or as good as the LTM version. Many people complain about the weight and size of this lens; they really should try shooting with a Canon 1D series and the 85mm f1.2L. Now that's big and heavy. Size and weight is all relative. To me, it's not a big deal. In fact, I like the hefty weight. It feels nice in my hand.
I have the lens in M39 - made for a slr versus rangefinder. Is your version for a rangefinder or slr? I also like the lens, I think mine was made in 1964.
ReplyDeleteMine is the M39 for rangefinder. The flange is too short for SLRs. I have the M39 (or LTM) to NEX adapter and it works very well. Not sure what year mine was made though.
DeleteLove your blog! What would be fantastic is if you can post pictures of the lens mounted on the NEX camera in addition to the samples. This will give a good idea of relative size. Doesn't matter if it is a picture from your phone.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work! This is inspiring.
Thanks for your suggestion! I will try to post pictures of lenses on the NEX-5N that I write about.
DeleteRussian lenses will usually list the year a lens was made as part of the serial number (first 2 digits) i.e. 649852 would indicate 1964 as the year of manufacture.
Delete@Anonymous: thanks for the information on the serial # and the relation to the year of manufacture. I guess mine was made in 1964.
DeleteYou're welcome. I have a thing for Russian lenses being ukrainian myself :)
ReplyDeleteIf you ever get a chance, please try Helios 40 85/1.5 lens, it is one of my favorites in that focal length and is great on full frame. See a small review I did a while back - http://forum.mflenses.com/helios-40-2-info-and-a-few-pics-t5930.html
I really enjoy reading through your blog, very informative. Was in Toronto last year and loved it, a great city. Thanks!
