Schneider-Kreuznach Xenon 50mm f1.9 DKL - Low Light Samples

Many of you already know, that this Schneider-Kreuznach Xenon 50mm f1.9 DKL lens is one of my favourite standard lenses. It's bokeh is delicious and wonderful; its optics superb; and it's one of the most handsome looking lens I have. I felt bad that I haven't used it often enough, so I took it out for some night shots yesterday, as seen below. One of the things I just found out, is that it's flare is very interesting. If you look at the second picture, just under the dark cloud, you will find a flare with star-shape inside a circle. Never seen anything like that before.

  1. Yu-Lin,
thank you for sharing the Xenon pics.

These Schneider Kreuznach Lenses are really marvellous night lenses. razor sharp (look at the numbers in the first pic!) and with good resolution. this is where they stand out in my opinion.

and the light greenish retro look is also outstanding.
they look even good on FF .i don't have. but this guy has:

the only downside: the common DKL-adapter is absolutely ugly ; ))

especially in combintion with the small c-curtagon 35mm/2.8 , which i like even more than the xenon cause of its retro colors and special cinemascope-film-flaring. like in these old gunslinger films.

    greetings to canada

    1. Michael, thank you for your comment. I agree with you on the Xenon 50/1.9. It's good all the check boxes ticked. Good optics, good looking, good resolution, good sharpness, good image quality.

Too bad we can't do much about the adapter. Some are better looking than others.

  3. Hi,
I have an Edixa Xenon 50 1.9 Schneider In M42 mount which I bought last week.
Whilst having a different mount, is this the same lens?
I have an m4/3's camera but yet to try it out.
Have you considered also putting a picture of the lens you are writing about with each post? It would be interesting.
I regularly check out your site as I have a similar affliction but not to the same extent as you, yet!
It will be great when FF mirrorless become available for using lenses at their true focal length but I doubt I wii be able to affod becoming an early adopter.
Nice pics, keep up the good work.

    1. Hi, I believe the Exida 50/1.9 is the same lens as the DKL version. They look similar with different mount, but since I don't have the Exida (I do have the f2.0 version and like it a lot), so I can't be 100% certain.

Yes, I will try to include the picture of the actual lens when I mention the lens first time. I have done that for some of the lenses, but not all. Thanks for the suggestion.

Very true about FF mirrorless. They will be niche cameras and therefore be very expensive. Shame, as there are loads of good lenses that only works with mirrorless cameras.
