The Steinheil Quinar 135mm f2.8 is one of the most beautifully made lens I have. The gorgeous chrome finish has no sign of fade or aging. It simply looks like new after many decades. The good look is supplemented by the great optics. It's sharp without harshness; just very pleasing rendering.
I love camera gear and picture taking. This is a window to my world of photography -- how I see through the lenses and what gear I use.

Hosing Down
Hosing down -- Sony NEX-5N & Steinheil Quinar 135mm f2.8
I was taking my usual lunch hour walk around the area near where I work, and surprised to see that the two building on Peter and Richmond Streets were being demolished. Took some pictures of the ruins and continued my walk. On my way back, I saw this guy hosing down the dust created by the demolishing machine. I thought it was funny because it looked like he was peeing :)
Took along the Steinheil Quinar 135mm f2.8. It's arguably the best looking lens I have, not to mention that it has more than just good looks; its bokeh is fabulous and optics very sharp.

Tiger Lily with Steinheil Quinar 135mm f2.8
Tiger Lily -- NEX-5 & Steinheil Quinar 135mm f2.8 @ f2.8. Click for larger.
The Steinheil 135mm f2.8 Quinar is by far the most beautiful looking lens I have. It truly is an object of art. The chrome finish still looks almost like new after so many years. It's a lens that screams quality, both in your hand and in your eye. Fortunately, its gorgeous looks is complimented by excellent optics. From wide open, the pictures are rendered pleasingly with very smooth tones. It's also has one of the nicest bokeh from the lenses I own. This lens was built with portraiture in mind, and although I haven't shot any portraits yet, I believe they will be stunning.
More pictures in the next few days.

Bike in the Rain
Bike -- Canon 5D & Steinheil Auto-Quinar 135mm f2.8 Exaktar Mount. Larger.
The Steinheil Auto-Quinar 135mm f2.8 is the reason why I love old lenses so much. This is a real beauty in mint condition. Looks beautiful, made beautiful and optically beautiful. I was not able to use this lens due to its Exaktar mount for a the last three years, because Exaktar to EOS adapters were expensive and most don't support lenses with an arm at the mount. Lens adapters have come down in reasonable prices so I bought one Exaktar to EOS adapter a few weeks ago. It turned out that the adapter was defective. It was so tight that I scraped my 5D while trying to un-mount it. Returned it to the seller, and he sent me another, better one. Still, many Exaktar mount lenses can't focus to infinity, and this is the ONLY one that can!
One day, I am going to write a post about lens adapter mounts.
The problem I have with cheap adapters is that they are not precisely made and so many can't achieve infinity focus as claimed, even with name brand ones like the Japanese made Elefoto Leica to EOS adapter. Another problem is there always seem to be some play after it's mounted on the camera.
